The Campo del Cielo meteorite refers to a large group of iron meteorites and impact craters in Argentina, composed primarily of iron and nickel. The impact event occurred roughly 4,000 to 5,000 years ago, and Spanish authorities first reported the massive iron lumps in 1576 after learning about them from local indigenous groups. Location: Straddles Chaco and Santiago del Estero provinces, about 1,000 km (620 miles) northwest of Buenos Aires.Age: Estimated at 4.5 billion years old (formed during early solar system development), impacting Earth 4,000–5,000 years ago.
