Collector notes
Gembone (or gem bone) is a rare type of fossilized dinosaur bone where the original organic material has been completely replaced by silica-rich minerals like agate, chalcedony, or jasper over millions of years. Formation: It forms when mineral-rich groundwater seeps into buried dinosaur bones. Microcrystalline quartz fills and replaces the cellular chambers instead of just crushing or obliterating them. Appearance: The slow replacement preserves the microscopic honeycomb or cellular structure of the original bone. When cut and polished, it reveals intricate geometric patterns and mosaic networks. Colors: Trace elements like iron, manganese, or chromium create vivid colors including bright reds, oranges, yellows, purples, and blues.
